Chebika: Of course, it is a matter of opinion but arguably one of the most beautiful places that you could ever visit in Tunisia. Chebika is a place that lies in the foot of the mountains of the Djebel el Negueb which is a perfect example of beauty.  Here is an Eden like oasis of beautiful waterfalls, curious caverns and the date palms trees that have been surviving in rocky clefts and unsurprisingly a popular tourist haunt. It was once a Roman outpost, named Ad Speculum and later a mountain refuge of the Berber people. Chebika is very well known for it’s natural beauty, so definitely do not miss this place if visiting Tunisia.

Brik: Brik is probably one of the most famous and traditional Tunisian dishes. Most of the restaurants have this on their menu and some on the street shops as well. Brik is something that can be compared to the pastry dough called Malsouka which is fried and is stuffed with eggs, parsley and tuna. It is then served with lemon and there is a technique to eat it. You take a couple of bites unless and until you reach the egg, and when you are there you will just have to swallow it. So, make sure that you don’t land up spilling the liquid of the egg. You can even continue adding lemon when ever you wish too.

Tunis Medina: The most beautiful part of the country is the old Arab walled town called Tunis medina which is a UNESCO world heritage site. While you make a visit to this place you can actually expect the finest and some of the best examples of the Arab architecture, and the lively scoops where each and every thing from the household to the gold items can be bartered at ease. The atmosphere is intoxicating giving you the taste of what life was like, in an Arabian opulence era dating from the 12th to the 16th century. The Medina contains some 700 monuments, palaces, mosques, mausoleums, madrasas and fountains dating from the Almohad and the Hafsid periods.

Tunisian Salad: This is basic and is something that is really very effective kind of a salad. This is a salad that includes tomato, onion, cucumber, beans, potatoes, olives, tuna and egg. This is served with olive oil and lemon on top and sometimes with harissa as well. While you continue taking the taste of this dish you will actually feel the freshness and the taste of the dish.

Matmata & the Ksour: I am sure that all the movie fans would instantly recognize the intriguing troglodytic houses of the Matmata & the Ksour.  This place was visited by George Lucas where he was then taken into the area that he used it as a set of Star Wars films.  This is the most unique place to be visited and a home to attractive honeycomb esque grananries known as the ghorfas.  This curious architectural style turns out to stem from the Berber settlements and are also unusual as they completely turn out to be from a different world.

Fricassé: The Fircasse is one of the most famous and favourite street foods of Tunisia and is probably mine as well. This is a savoury and fried kind of a doughnut that is  served with tuna, boiled egg, olives, harissa and boiled potato. There is an open area where we actually got both ambalouni and Fricassé and also homemade potato crisps right next to the main mosque in the area.

The Sahara: Each and every visitor should not miss to include the world’s largest desert into their itinerary and the Sahara can be reached by the tours arranged from the most resort towns. The eastern sand sea makes up a huge part of southern Tunisia and is the magical place where the scenes from the Star Wars and English patient were once being filmed.  The area is best explored by jeep or by camel but it is highly recommended to include an overnight stay in this traditional tent. Also make sure that you don’t miss out the most beautiful sand dunes in Tunisia and Chott el Jerid which is a vast Salt Lake.

Le Lablabi: This is for sure a favourite for most of them even today. Lablabi is a thick soup or a stew that is made up of chick peas flavoured with cumin and garlic. It is also served using small pieces of stale crusty bread that is recommended to be two days old. A soft part of egg is also added to the soup along with olive oil, harissa, capers, tuna, olives, lemon juice, garlic and additional cumin.

Sidi Bou Said: Being perched on the steep cliff, overlooking at the Mediterranean is where you will actually find in Tunisia the prettiest town.  The gorgeous traditional houses here have been white washed to perfection and with beautifully accented flashes of the brilliant blue.  It has been a long bohemian enclave along with a few trendy boutique hotels popping up and attracting a lot of foreign crowd. It’s a spectacular place and worth visiting in Tunisia.

Sousse: Located on the right side of the coast this former military post is known for the beautiful sandy beaches and the UNESCO world Heritage Site status. This is both a bustling kind of a tourist place and a beautifuly preserved place, which is a fine example of the town dating from the very first centuries of Islam. You can begin by visiting the outstanding Arabo-Muslim and Mediterranean architecture including ramparts, Bu Ftata Mosque, a typical ribat and medina which is also home to the city’s Great Mosque.

Hammamet: Hammamet is one of those places that lies in the Mediterranean coast of the North Tunisia. North Tunisia is a popular place that is famed for its endless beaches and wonderful preserved medina. This is a place that has passed many different hands starting from the Punic, Roman, Islamic, Spanish, Turkish and the last but not the least French, each of them leaving their own architectural legacy. The architecture here date back from the 13th century, to the medina during the 15th out of which many of the elegant whitewashed houses were built during the era of French rule.

Sfax: Sfax was built on the ruins of the two roman towns on the east coast and is a port from which the olive oil grown inland could be easily transported from all over the Mediterranean. This is a place that was fought for centuries by the Normans from Sicily, the Spanish and later turned out to become the base for barbary pirates. Today there is also a real French feel to the various parts of the Safax with boulevards and the avenues. So don’t forget to make a visit to this place before leaving Tunisia.
